Melt My Heart

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

When you think of a one year wedding anniversary destination, Phoenix is probably dead last on that list. Nevertheless, we found ourselves on a one hour flight to the middle of the desert, in the middle of Summer. Totally sane right?

First stop, The Desert Botanical Garden.

Home to over four thousand species of plants, this little gem is absolutely stunning. Travel channel and USA Today name it one of the top 10 botanical gardens in the United States! If you ever find yourself in the Phoenix area, this is a must see. However, during the summer months temperatures can exceed 110 degrees. As you can see by Sam's face, this is not the most desirable option. You might want to consider Fall or Winter when planning your trip.

The Arts District. Every city has one, and in Phoenix it is Roosevelt Row.

With hundreds of murals and unique shops, this is the place to be if you enjoy art and local culture as much as we do. Here is a list of some of the best spots to check out: Mother Bunch Brewing, Lawn Gnome Books, MELT Ice Cream, The Lost and Bliss/ReBAR for Drinks, MADE, Eye Lounge and Monorchid for some badass art, then Angels Trumpet and Film bar for more tasty refreshments. If you have any energy or appetite left at the end of this day, Durant's is a staple and just a 5 minute Uber ride away. Built in 1955, this place treats you like royalty and cooks up a mean steak and creme brûlée!

Lastly, wether you are a baseball fan or not, Chase Field is worth a visit. The stadium not only has an indoor pool, but puppies you can play with AND an exclusive area for people who want to watch the game with their own dogs. Woof! How cool is that?
