Off to the Races

Whether you go for the betting, the delicious food or just the concert after the race, Del Mar Race Track is a sensory overload of thrilling entertainment. We happened to go for all of the above to celebrate Sam's 27th Birthday!
The energy of people all around, gripping the edge of their seats in anticipation that their horse will be first to cross the finish line, is absolutely contagious. Be sure you have a solid strategy when making your choice, for example, “Crown The Kitten”… I have a kitten! $5 on #9 please! Works for me (sometimes).
Tacos, tacos and mooore tacos! YES. Tacotopia, “The Search for San Diego’s Best Taco,” is what dreams are made of. This annual festival features over 40 vendors from San Diego, Los Angeles and even Tijuana! It doesn’t get more authentic than that. Puesto (on the pink plate) was our winner hands down. If you’re ever in San Diego, please do yourself the ultimate favor and try their chicken al pastor tacos. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! So good!
If a day of racing and unlimited tacos isn’t enough, the track does a summer concert series with some amazing bands that you've actually heard of! Even better is that it is included with admission ($6) as long as you arrive before the last race. I got to knock two off my list this time around – Matisyahu mixed up some of his classic songs with a reggae vibe and 311 KILLED IT. S.A. Martinez is probably the most entertaining performer I have ever seen with his sick dance moves. I’m so bummed I forgot to put the memory card in my camera for better pictures and footage but I guess that just means we have to see them again *shrugs* bummer ;)
